Valves shall be the product of a manufacturer who is experienced in butterfly vale design and construction and who has regularly produced to AWWA specifications for at least 15 years. Valves shall be bubble tight at rated pressure in either direction and shall be suitable for throttling service and/or operation over long periods of inactivity. All valves shall be of significant US content of at least 80 percent and shall be certified to the actual percent of content.

Body

All valve bodies shall be constructed of cast iron ASTM A-126 Grade B with true ANSI B16.1 flange thickness and drilling.

Disc

Valve disc shall be constructed of cast iron ASTM A-48 Class 40, ductile iron ASTM A-536 or steel alloy. Valve disc shall be capable of receiving a stainless steel disc edge. Shafts shall be of solid stainless steel and correspond to the design requirements of AWWA C-504 latest revision. A shake proof connection of the disc to the shaft shall be provided without impairing shaft strength.

Bearing

All shaft bearings shall be of the self-lubrication corrosion-resistant type. Bearings shall be designed for vertical or horizontal shaft loading.

Packing

They provide smooth continuous torque output for seating, unseating and valve movement under all conditions in an given application. Pneumatic, Hydraulic and electric actuators can be furnished for open/close or throttling applications.

Manual gear type operators will require 80 pounds or less input force to produce torque sufficient to fully cycle the valve under full flow and pressure. All manual gear units have standard AWWA stop limiting device and valve position indicator.
